Wow...great connection, Bill. I missed that completely, but this was absolutely the first--accidental and involuntary--Bat Day promotion in baseball history. Bravo!
Interesting concept on how to close off the season. Although it is long after 162 games all good things must come to an end. For the teams that suffered from a miserable season the end may very well be something they look forward to.
On the other hand by the change of the new year fans have had enough (at least me) of hockey, BB, curling & even football as we look forward to Spring Training.
I think it is probably everyone's preference to close the season with a postseason, but for those without that opportunity, a little whimsy goes a long way.
Any article that starts off being about Shane Halter is an article I'm going to read. Thanks for helping me relive that memorable game!
Glad to provide a reminder. I'm excited to see whether the Shane Halter or Jimmy McAleer fans win out in the comments...
It occurs to me that "Baseball Burlesque" was the very first "Bat Day" event - a grand tradition, which is, alas, no more.

BTW Paul, Yogi’s museum never got back to me regarding the Yellow Ball which doesn’t surprise me. I’ll try calling next week. 🤞
