This “chaos” game was a little (or a lot) of everything! Pitching 12 innings (many pitchers now barely make it to 5), darts thrown at players, Chambliss’s tetanus shot. This must’ve been fun to write!
I agree. 5 innings if you’re lucky & the bull pen… some guys 1 innings. For what these guys are getting paid, c’mon. I mean look at football. How come no double headers?? lol..
Love it! I was thinking more "lock the door and throw away the key" on the other team, but that makes sense. Adding it to my list of archaic terms to try and resurrect.
I remember watching this game actually which is pretty good considering I don’t remember much. I wasn’t aware of the darts being tossed at the players but you would think that’s not acceptable in any ball park & that should be sufficient to forfeit the game.
My wife being from Philly of course hates the Yankees as we live in north Jersey.
My comeback is, “At least we don’t throw snow balls at Santa like the Eagles fans do.” Ahh… silence is golden.
It's impressive that you remember it! Of course despite the drama the Yankees missed the division title so it was all just a stepping stone toward the Billy Martin era.
I'm not surprised the dart thing was left unmentioned--easy to gloss that particular behavior over for any fans watching. Like New Yorkers, Boston fans have their moments, but Philly fans are forever the Project 3.18 champs.
Great finish, Paul! I think the picture of Alex Johnson at the end of the bench is mislabeled - it says 1976 Tigers, but that sure looks like an Angels jacket he’s wearing.
Right you are, Bill. Five points to the Hogwarts house of your choice. I saw the "g" and just went straight to the Tigers, forgetting how much navy those 70s Angels wore. Corrected now, and thanks!
Funny you should mention Billy Martin - I just watched a movie about him in Prime. I was at my sister-in-law's parents house the night of the accident. That put a kabash on the holidays. I don't see Boone managing like Billy did, he was rather unique.
I read a book on Mickey & Billy & he hung out. They surely knew in which hotel the stewardesses were stayin!! I'll leave it at that.
I have a pic with Willie Randolpk somewhere. He had lots of Sony gear & he knew someone at Sony who had direct contact with him. Although I didn't work in the Consumer Division Willie had a Firewire camera that he couldn't get working with his Sony VAIO so this other guy (Paul I think) had him bring it in. Well about 15 people ran over to my desk & they crowded around Willie. I ended up just walking away... I got MY pic!!

“Lock-up man” as in for the manager, his job is done, get these guys out and lock up when you’re finished.

I’ll tell Lynne your comment. That’ll make her day. I always wear my Yankee Jersey to a Philly game. The ‘Brotherly Love’ just flows…
