Wow, what a blowout! It’s a shame that Denny McClain couldn’t go in the wayback machine 50+ years! I was amazed at the ages of some of the replacement players. Very interesting 🤔. Thanks, Paul.
That's about 800 bucks today, which I would consider a good day's work, but the beauty of this story, as you say, is that it could never happen today. It is effectively a fantasy. You might as well tell this story with unicorns instead of Philadelphia neighborhood guys, because that would be just as possible.
Paul, this is a gem! So fortunate that the photo of Mr Travers survived. If you ever want to record another video with me I would love to chat about this one. Either way, thank you for the continued great content. --Gordon

Age is but a number! At least for the first four innings--then some of these guys needed to sit down.
Thanks for the wonderful write up of a game I’d heard of but didn’t know much beyond that it happened.
Such a great story!
Thanx again Paul. I don’t think this would work today. $25? Holy Cow!

Another great piece, Paul! Those guys might have been at home in Veeck's 1976 "Beer League" White Sox short pants uniforms.
There are few things I want to see less than the exposed legs of two retired catchers whose careers largely predated shin protectors, Bill.
